Rain Soaked Weekend In Lake City

Rain Soaked Weekend In Lake City

LAKE CITY, Minn. (9/15/13)—Concordia hit the road for the first time in the 2013 season and came away with a tie for 13th place finish at the rain soaked D3 Classic at The Jewel GC in Lake City.

The tournament was played in a rain storm on Saturday and inclement conditions on Sunday. The "less than ideal" conditions were a huge part of the tournament and pushed the Cobbers to team scores of 348 on Saturday and 356 on Sunday.

Concordia was led by a tandem of juniors. Kristi Opatz was the low Cobber for the two-day meet. Opatz shot a team-best 81 on Saturday and then followed that up with an 88 on Day 2. Her total of 169 was food for a spot in the top 30 as she finished in 28th place. Katie Nelson had the best final round score of any CC golfer. She had an 83 on Sunday after shooting a 90 in the opening round. She finished with a total of 173 and was tied for 43rd place.

Opatz and Nelson continue to be the top 2 Concordia golfers for the season as far as average per round. Opatz leads the team after four rounds on the year with an 82.3 average. Nelson is right behind at 83.0.

CC freshman Kara Meslow was the most consistent Cobber golfer on the weekend. She fired a pair of 89's in the tournament.

Concordia will participate in a mid-week meet at UM-Morris on Thursday, Sept. 19 and then head to Sartell to compete in the St. Ben's Blazer Fall Invite at Blackberry Ridge GC on Saturday, Sept. 21 and Sunday, Sept. 22.
