One Final Southern Swing Before Conference

MANKATO, Minn. (9/29/12)— Molly Zavadil shot identical 82's and finished in a tie for 12th place to lead Concordia at the Gustavus Fall Invitational in the final competition before the MIAC Championship Meet.

The Cobbers placed fifth in the eight-team competition in southern Minnesota. Concordia struggled to a 353 in the opening day of the meet on Saturday at the Le Sueur Country Club but then rebounded with a 338 on Sunday at the North Links GC in Mankato.

Zavadil's final total of 164 (82-82) was a season-best score in a two-day tournament.  Her previous low total of the year came last weekend at the Southwest MN State Invite when she carded a 170.

Amy Mireault and Katie Nelson were the No.2 and 3 golfers for CC and finished within one stroke of each other. Mireault shot a 175 (87-88) and placed in a tie for 23rd while Nelson had a 10-stroke improvement from Saturday to Sunday and finished with a 176 (93-83) and was tied for the 23rd spot at the invite.

Kristi Opatz and Tiffany Swanson rounded out the Concordia squad at the meet. Opatz carded a 180 (91-89) while Swanson had the biggest turnaround from day 1 to day 2 of any CC golfer and finished with a 187 (102-85).

Concordia will now set its sights on the MIAC Championship Meet. The Cobbers will be looking to duplicate last year's solid performance when they finished fourth. The conference meet will be held on Oct. 6-8 at Bunker Hills GC in Coon Rapids, Minn.
