Cobbers Compete At DIII Midwest Classic

LAKE CITY, Minn. (9/16/12)—Concordia had their top 4 golfers finish within six strokes of one another and tied for ninth place at the Division III Midwest Classic. The Cobbers were led by Amy Mireault who fired a 171 (81-90) and tied for 22nd place.

Playing in one of the top tournaments in the region during the fall season, Concordia opened the invite by shooting a team score of 340 on Saturday. Mireault led the way with an 81. The Cobbers strggled on Sunday as they came home in 354 – 14 strokes off their pace from Saturday. Kristi Opatz was the low CC player on day 2 of the tournament. She shot an 87 and finished two strokes behind Mireault at 173 (86-87).

Besides Mireault and Opatz, Katie Nelson and Molly Zavadil both finished with final scores under 180. Nelson was one shot behind Opatz at 174 (85-89) and finished in a tie for 34th place. Zavadil recorded a 177 (89-88) and was tied for 45th place.

Concordia will have a midweek dual meet when they compete against UM-Morris on Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Pomme De Terre golf course. The Cobbers will then head to Marshall to participate in the Southwest MN State Invite on Saturday, Sept. 22 and Sunday, Sept. 23.
