Halverson Hired As Assistant Coach

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/21/20)--- Concordia head coach Kim Wagers announced that Lindsey (Schultz) Halverson has been hired as the new full-time assistant coach for the program. Halverson replaces Terry Porter who was the interim assistant coach for the 2020 season.

"Lindsey has been a part of the Concordia women's basketball tradition and her spirit and work ethic will be a huge asset for the program," Wagers said. "She played at the highest level for Concordia and that experience will help her connect with our student/athletes."

Halverson played for the Cobbers from 2008-11 and helped Concordia win the MIAC playoff tournament championship as a senior in 2011. She was also a part of teams that made two NCAA tournament appearances. Halverson was named to the MIAC All-Defensive Team in 2009 and was a 2-time All-MIAC Honorable Mention honoree. During her four seasons at Concordia she helped the team record 74 overall wins and post a 66-22 record in conference play. The Cobbers also made the playoffs all four of Halverson's seasons and advanced to the MIAC championship game on a pair of occasions.

"I am very honored to be back with a program that has so much to me," Halverson said. "I think Kim (Head Coach Kim Wagers) is doing a lot of great things with the team and I love the way she coaches. I can't wait to get to know each player personally and to help the team keep improving."

Halverson's multi-year experience with local high school programs will help her in the recruitment of student/athletes. She was the head coach for Waubun High School from 2013-19 where she helped bring a successful culture and philosophy to the program. She also helped lead the youth through Saturday morning programs as well as helping out with local tournaments and community education program.  Before her head coaching tenure, she was the assistant coach for basketball and volleyball at Lake Park-Audubon High School.

"Lindsey went above and beyond the call of duty to assist her players," Waubun Athletic Director Paul Clark stated in reference to Halverson. "She was a positive influence on all of our young ladies who needed a strong female role model. Lindsey has changed lives through her coaching."

As well as her head coaching duties, Halverson has been a third-grade teacher at Ogema Elementary School in Ogema, Minn. from 2013 until the present. She was also a House System Administrator, member of the Constructive/Innovation Committee and also served on the Oversight Committee.

"The only down side of becoming the assistant at Concordia is that I have to say goodbye to all the great people at the school (Ogema)," Halverson said. "I will miss the relationships with the kids. They are such a joy to be around and they are so resilient."

Halverson graduated from Concordia in 2011 with a bachelor's degree while majoring in Elementary Education and went on to earn her master's degree in Differential Instruction from Concordia-St. Paul in 2018.
