Late Rally Runs Out Of Time

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/16/19)---Concordia ran out of time in their last-minute comeback against St. Scholastica and lost 77-73 in Moorhead.

The Cobbers trailed by seven points with just over 1-minute to play and cut the lead to one point at 74-73 on an Elizabeth Birkemeyer layup with 19-seconds to play but couldn't come up with a key make down the stretch and fell by four.

The loss is the second straight for Concordia who fall to 1-2 on the year. The Saints even their season record at 1-1.

The Cobbers and Saints went back-and forth throughout the entire game. Concordia led after the first quarter, the score was tied at the half and Scholastica was out in front after three quarters. The game featured eight tie scores and seven lead changes.

The stat sheet was just as close. Concordia shot 48.1% (25-for-52) from the floor while Scholastica connected on 46.0% (29-for-63) of their shots from the floor. CC held a 34-31 edge in rebounds and a 32-28 advantage in points in the paint.

The biggest difference came from outside the arc where the Cobbers made only five 3-pointers and shot 25.0% (5-for-20) from long range as compared to 11 made 3's and a 46.0% (11-for-25) success rate from outside the arc.

Concordia had three players combine for 50 of the team's 73 points. Autumn Thompson and Mary Sem both had 20 points each and Birkemeyer added 10.

Sem put up a team-high five assists while Birkemeyer and Vanessa Kedl led the team in rebounds with six each.
