Wagers Named Head Coach

MOORHEAD, Minn. (6/10/19)---Concordia Athletic Director Rachel Bergeson announced that former Wis.-Eau Claire top assistant coach Kim Wagers has been hired as the new head coach for the Cobber women's basketball program.

"We had an excellent pool of candidates and Kim really stood out during the entire process," Bergeson commented. "From the initial phone interview to the on-campus visit she did a great job of expressing her background in the sport, knowledge of the game and leadership towards the student/athletes."

Wagers becomes the 10th coach in the 45-year history of Cobber women's basketball . She succeeds Jessica Rahman who retired earlier in the spring after coaching the Cobbers for 16 seasons. .

"I am excited to carry on the tremendous tradition of women's basketball at Concordia," said Wagers. "I can't wait to build on the success that Jessica (former coach Jessica Rahman) had and add another chapter to the program."       

Wagers spent the past seven years as the assistant coach at Wis.-Eau Claire. She took the position with the Blugolds after spending two seasons as assistant coach in basketball, and volleyball, at Wis.-Superior. Wagers helped the Blugolds post a .500 or better overall record in the past five seasons. During her tenure at Eau Claire, the program earned a berth in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) postseason tournament on five occasions and the Blugolds advanced to the semifinals in three of the past five seasons.

Wagers, who is originally from Moose Lake, Minn., attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth where she played basketball for four seasons. She was named to the North Central Conference (NCC) Academic Honor Roll selection on two occasions and was captain of the Bulldogs in her senior year. Wagers graduated from Duluth with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and a minor in psychology in 2008.

"I would like to thank Concordia athletic director Rachel Bergeson for the opportunity to lead the women's basketball program," Wagers added. "The campus has an amazing feel, and I met so many great people who I am excited to start working with and building relationships. I would also like to thank everyone at Wis.-Eau Claire for the past 7 years - it is a special place and will always be important to me."

Wagers will begin her head coaching position on July 1.
