Senior Day Celebration

STORY LINE: Concordia finished off the 2019 season by celebrating the seniors before their game with Gustavus. Unfortunately for the Cobbers there would be no storybook finish as Gustavus used the strength of the second and third quarters to come away with an 81-51 victory.

RECORDS: The Cobbers end the year with an 8-17 overall record and a 5-13 mark in MIAC play. Gustavus ups its record to 14-11 in all games and 11-7 in league play. The Gusties will be the No.5 seed in the upcoming MIAC playoffs.

GAME PLOT: Concordia trailed early but then came back to take an 11-9 lead when sophomore Elizabeth Birkemeyer converted on a layup.  The Gusties would drain a 3-pointer to take a 12-11 lead on the very next possession before senior Kirstin Simmons made a free throw to tie the game at 12-12. GAC grabbed a 14-12 lead after the first period with a bucket in the final seconds. The second and third quarters turned in Gustavus' favor. The Gusties shot 57.9% (19-for-34) in the middle two periods as opposed to 40.9% (9-for-22) for CC. The 10 more made field goals led to a 48-25 advantage for Gustavus in the second and third periods.

SENIOR STATS: Senior Grace Wolhowe capped her college career by posting another double-digit point total. She led the Cobbers with 14 points and was 3-for-5 from outside the arc. Wolhowe finished the year with a 10.7 ppg average and scored at least 10 points in 13 games. Fellow Kirstin Simmons continued to battle through playing with a cast on her right forearm. Simmons finished with five points and three rebounds. Simmons led the Cobbers in rebounding as she averaged 7.1 rebounds per game in her 16 games this season.
