The Song Remains The Same In Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (11/25/16)—The song remains the same for the Cobbers. Concordia turned a five-point lead after the third quarter into a 17-point win over The Ozarks by outscoring the Eagles 19-7 in the fourth quarter.

The Cobbers went 13-for-16 from the free throw line in the final period to secure a 69-57 victory and earn the team's second straight win. The Cobbers are 3-2 on the year. The Ozarks fall for the second straight game and fall to 2-3.

Concordia's senior outside-inside tandem of Greta Walsh and Jenna Januschka did the majority of the offensive damage. The two combined for 37 of the team's 69 points. Walsh went 7-for-19 from the floor and 4-for-6 from the free throw line and finished with a game-high 20 points. Januschka went 6-for-10 from the field, 5-for-7 from the foul line and had 17 points. She also had a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Cobbers trailed 13-11 after the opening quarter.  The Eagles would push the lead to six points at 23-17 with 3:12 to play in the half before Concordia went on a 12-4 run to close out the second period and take a 29-27 lead into the break.

One of the keys in the first half was the play of sophomore Lincoln Haiby who scored all of her nine points in the game in first half she went 3-for-4 from the floor but a perfect 3-for-3 from 3-point range to give the Cobbers a spark off the bench.    

The lead would stay at two points until midway through the third quarter when the Cobbers turned a 35-33 lead into a 43-33 advantage by scoring eight straight points.

Concordia would never let The Ozarks get within three points for the remainder of the game and used their 13 fourth-quarter free throws to win by 17.

The Cobbers shot 41.1% (23-for-56) from the field for the game and 37.6% (6-for-16) from outside the arc. CC shot 81.0 % (17-for-21) from the free throw line. The Cobbers defense limited the Eagles to just 27.9% (17-for-61) shooting from the field and 20.0% (4-for-20) from 3-point range.

CC held a 47-35 edge in rebounds and a 28-24 margin in points in the paint.

GRETA'S GOT GAME: Greta Walsh has now scored at least 14 points in all five Concordia games this year and has at least 20 points in two of the last four games. She has led the team in scoring in all five games and is averaging 18.2 points per game which is third best in the MIAC.

GRACE UNDER PRESSURE: Sophomore Grace Wolhowe went 8-for-8 from the free throw line against The Ozarks and is now a perfect 12-for-12 from the foul line for the season. Wolhowe finished with a season-high 13 points and has now scored in double figures in the past two games. 

LONG-RANGE LINCOLN: Lincoln Haiby's three made 3-pointers in the first half were the first of her collegiate career. She was 0-for-2 this season from outside the arc and went 0-for-2 last year.  

BROKEN RECORD: What would a recap be without a statistical mention of the fourth quarter? The Cobbers have scored 32.8% of their total points in the fourth quarter alone. CC has outscored its opponents 42-22 in the last two game and 96-73 for the season. Concordia is now 3-0 when it outscores its opponents in the fourth quarter of games.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will play Elmhurst (Ill.) on Saturday, Nov. 26 in the championship of the Rocky Mountain Classic. The Bluejays beat host Colorado College 82-39 on Friday and are 5-0 for the season.
