Rocky Mountain Home Opener

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/17/16) --- Concordia climbed to a 16-11 lead after one quarter but then ran into a cold front in the second half and lost 69-57 to Jamestown. 

Senior guard Greta Walsh provided the warm front for the Cobber offense. She posted a career-high 24 points and went 7-for-18 from the field.

Concordia got outscored 42-32 in the second half and turned the ball over 12 times in the 20-minute period. The Jimmies turned the dozen CC miscues into 12 points and shot 46.4% from the floor to seize control of the game.

Jamestown improves to 5-2 with the win while the Cobber's record evens out to 1-1.

Concordia raced out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter. Walsh started the game with a driving layup and sophomore Grace Wolhowe connected on a right-corner jumper to help CC jump ahead early.

The Jimmies weathered the storm and cut the deficit to 16-11 by quarter's end.

Walsh buried a deep triple followed by a basket from Lexi Nelson to extend the lead to 21-13 before Jamestown turned it on.

JU went on a 14-6 run to end the half and grabbed a 27-25 lead heading into the break.

Jamestown continued their run in the second half. They scored the half's first three buckets to extend their lead to 33-25.

The 20-6 run that spanned from the 8:27 mark of the second quarter to the 8:13 mark of the third forced Concordia head coach Jessica Rahman to take a needed timeout.

Walsh responded by scoring on back-to-back trips but Jamestown countered each possession with a basket of their own.

The Jimmies pushed the lead to 40-29 after a pair of CC turnovers that turned into triples on the opposite end and pushed it to 49-36 at the end of the third quarter.

From the 3:59 mark of the third quarter on Jamestown led by nine points or more the rest of the way.

JU was led in scoring by senior Kyra Dewald who dropped in 16 points to pace the Jimmies. She was the only Jamestown player to reach double figures.

Walsh finished with a game-high 24 points while Jenna Januschka chipped in 13 points.

Cassidy Rahman finished with five points and a career-high eight rebounds, which was also a team high.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN WAY: Joe Walsh's 1973 hit Rocky Mountain Way sums up Concordia's tough defeat on Thursday, but Greta Walsh still "balled out". She scored 20 points or more for the fifth time in her career as Walsh poured in a career-high 24 points to go along with three rebounds. The Litchfield, Minn. product topped her previous career-high of 23 points against St. Mary's last season. 

COLD FRONT IN MEMORIAL: Concordia slips to 7-3 in home openers in the last 10 years and has dropped two straight home openers as they lost an 86-77 decision to Wis.-Superior in last year's home opener. 

JJ BEING JJ: Jenna Januschka's 13 points on Thursday marks the 26th time in her career she has scored 10 points or more. The senior scored in double figures 23 times last season. 

WHAT'S NEXT?: Concordia will head to the Land of Cheese to take on Wis.-Superior on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. The Cobbers will then return home to host St. Scholastica on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 5 p.m.
