Four Players Earn All-MIAC Honors

Four Players Earn All-MIAC Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/03/16)—Concordia finished off the MIAC season by having four players earn conference postseason honors.

Olivia Johnson and Jenna Januschka were named to the MIAC All-Conference Team while Greta Walsh earned MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors and Hannah Jeske was the team's selection for the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

It is the third straight year that Johnson has come away with MIAC postseason honors. Walsh earns her second conference award while Januschka and Jeske come away with their first award.

The four players helped the Cobbers earn their 14th consecutive MIAC playoff appearance. Concordia went 13-4 in conference play and finished fourth in the regular-season standings.  CC advanced to the semifinals of the MIAC tournament after beating Bethel in the quarterfinals. Concordia ended the year with an 18-9 overall record which marked the seventh time in the past eight years the team has won at least 18 games in a campaign.

Johnson is rewarded for another stellar season with her first-ever All-Conference honor. She earned All-Conference Honorable Mention honors in her sophomore and junior seasons.

Johnson finished the year by averaging 11.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in the team's 17 conference games. She led the team in rebounding and free throw percentage. Johnson connected on 80.3% of her free throw attempts in league play.

Johnson led the MIAC in defensive rebounds (119) in league play. She was also third in total rebounds (151), fourth in rebounds per game (8.4) and sixth in free throw percentage.

Johnson scored at least 10 points in 13 of the 17 MIAC contests and recorded four double-doubles. She had at least seven rebounds in all but three games.

Januschka was the surprise of the season for the Cobbers. She led the team in scoring with a 14.8 points per game average and 13 double-digit scoring games in conference play. All this after averaging 3.9 points and not having a single game with more than 10 points last season.

Januschka was sixth in the MIAC in points per game, fifth in field goal percentage (52.55) and sixth in rebounds per game (7.6). She finished in the top 10 in eight different stat categories in league play.

Januschka had a career-high 23 points against Augsburg on Jan. 30. She had at least 20 points in three MIAC games. Januschka's top rebound game also came against Augsburg where she grabbed 13 boards and put up one of her three double-doubles for the league season.

Walsh, who was named to the MIAC All-First-Year Team as a freshman in 2014, led the team in 3-point field goals and was second on the team in scoring. She knocked down 37 shots from behind the arc and averaged  13.1 points per MIAC game. Walsh had at least two 3-pointers in 12 MIAC games and had 10 points in 12 conference games.

Walsh's season high in points came in the team's game at St. Mary's where she made nine field goals and finished with 23 points.

Walsh was second in the MIAC in 3-pointers and 12th in the league in scoring in conference games.
