Seniors Lead By Example In Regular-Season Finale

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/21/15)—Concordia led wire-to-wire in its 69-53 regular-season finale win over Augsburg and in the process earned the No.3 seed for the upcoming MIAC playoffs.

The Cobbers posted their 15th overall win and 11th in conference play by shooting 52.4% (11-for-21) from 3-point range. Concordia earned the No.3 seed by having St. Benedict beat Gustavus on Saturday and owning the tie-breaker for the three-way tie for third place between the Gusties and St. Mary's.

Concordia finished the regular season with a 15-10 record in all games and an 11-7 mark in league play. It is the seventh straight season that the Cobbers have finished in the top 3 in the final standings of the MIAC.

In a strange twist of fate, Concordia will host Augsburg for the second straight game as the Auggies earned their first-ever trip to the MIAC playoffs and will be the No.6 seed.

Concordia honored its seniors before the game and both four-year players led by example. Alley Fisher went 3-for-7 from behind the arc to add to her school-record 3-point point total and finished with 16 points. She now has 179 career 3-pointers and 57 for the season. Fisher also had a game-high six assists.

Erin Januschka scored six of her eight points in the decisive first half of play and finished with eight points to go along with a game-high eight rebounds. She also dished off three helpers.

The Cobbers finished the game with 17 assists. It is the fourth time in the last six games that CC has had more than 15 assists in a game.

Concordia broke open the game with the Auggies by shooting 58.6% (17-for-29) from the field and 50.0% (7-for-14) from 3-point range in the first half. The Cobbers scored 41 points in the first 20 minutes of play which is only the second time this season they have surpassed the 40-point total for the opening period of play.

The Cobbers built a 14-point halftime lead and pushed to it to as many as 20 points early in the second half but Augsburg rallied and cut the deficit to 14 points midway through the final period of play.

In addition to the big games from the two seniors, junior Olivia Johnson had a game-high 17 points while Hannah Jeske did not miss a shot all game long and added 11 points. She was 3-for-3 from behind the arc.

Concordia will now enter the MIAC postseason for the 13th consecutive season. The Cobbers lost in the conference semifinals last year and are 4-3 lifetime in MIAC quarterfinal games. Concordia will host Augsburg in the opening game of the MIAC tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
