Equation Is Simple In Season-Opening Loss

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (11/15/14)--- The equation was simple - fall behind 14-4 in the first few minutes of the game, commit 21 turnovers and shoot just 25.9% from the floor. Those three components led to Concordia's 60-47 season-opening loss at Jamestown. The Cobbers never led in the game as they lost only their second season opener in the past six years.

The Cobbers struggled early on against the Jimmies – making only one of their first nine shots from the field and committing 10 turnovers in the first 12 minutes of the opening half. Concordia scored only eight points in the first 11:56 of play and trailed 20-8.

That was the bad news.

The good news is that once the Cobbers started to find their game legs they were able to play even with Jamestown who was playing their seventh game of the year.

Concordia trailed 34-19 at halftime but then outscored the Jimmies 28-26 in the final 20 minutes of play.

The Cobbers struggled from the floor the entire game and finished by shooting 25.9% (15-for-58). CC did not shoot under 30.0% from the floor in any game last season. Concordia was equally cold from outside the arc. The Cobbers shot 26.7% (4-for-15) from 3-point range. Concordia had 21 turnovers for the game but had 14 in the first half alone.

Concordia didn't have a player score in double figures. Emma Peterson came off the bench to lead the team with nine points. She was 4-for-8 from the floor and connected on her only shot from outside the arc. Fellow reserve Katie Rosenfeldt had eight points and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Senior guard Alley Fisher led the CC starting 5. She had eight points on a 3-for-10 shooting night. Erin Januschka had a game-high seven rebounds and finished with six points.

The Cobbers will host their home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. when they square off against Mayville State.
