Wire-To-Wire To Get Within One

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (2/03/14) – Concordia shot a season-high 52.9% from 3-point range, led wire-to-wire and rolled over Augsburg 79-40. The Cobbers made nine shots from behind the arc in posting their 15th win of the season.

Concordia (15-5/13-3 MIAC) started the game on a 12-1 and then outscored the Auggies 39-8 in a 16-minute period sandwiched around halftime en route to the 39-point win. The victory keeps the Cobbers in third place in the league standings. CC has five games remaining in the regular season and needs only one more win to clinch its 12th consecutive playoff spot.

The Cobbers had 13 players score in the win at Augsburg. A trio of players scored in double figures including junior guard Alley Fisher who missed the last game at St. Mary's due to an illness. Fisher came off the bench to go 3-for-4 from outside the arc and finish with 13 points. Senior center Alexandra Lippert also had 13 points. Lippert also came away with 10 rebounds to record her third double-double of the season and 14th of her career.

Freshman point guard Greta Walsh posted her fourth straight double-digit scoring game. She went 4-for-8 from outside the arc, scored all her points from long distance and finished with 12 points. She was also one of three players to dish out three assists. Two other freshman guards gave CC quality point production. Hannah Jeske added seven points and Morgan Gunderson went 3-for-4 from the floor and had a career-high six points.

Concordia held the advantage in almost every statistical category for the game. The biggest discrepancies came from shooting percentage and rebounding. Concordia shot 47.3% (26-for-55) from the floor and the 52.9% (9-for-17) from 3-point range while the Cobber defense did its best Richard Sherman impression and shut down the Auggies to just 26.0% (13-for-50) from the field and 26.7% (4-for-15) from long range. The 26.0% shooting from the field is the lowest by any Concordia opponent this season.

The Cobbers doubled up the Auggies on the board. CC came away with 48 rebounds as compared to only 24 for Augsburg. It marks the second time in three games that Concordia has limited their MIAC opponent to only 24 rebounds in a game.

Concordia returns to Moorhead for a one-game home stand. The Cobbers will try and clinch the playoff berth when they host St. Olaf on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 5:45 p.m.
