Another Second-Half Success Story

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/29/14)—Fans of this year's Cobber team know that you need only show up at halftime in order to see the game's best moments. For the fourth time in the past six games Concordia overcame a halftime deficit and rallied to beat a conference opponent.

The Cobbers were "lights out" in the second period against Bethel and steamrolled the Royals 84-59. Concordia outscored Bethel 58-26 in the second half, including a game-changing 32-13 run to post their eighth straight victory. The eight-game win streak matches last year's eight-game streak. It is the longest since the 2004-05 season when they won 15 straight.

The win keeps Concordia in touch with the top of the MIAC. The Cobbers are now 12-2 in the MIAC and still one game behind first place. CC is now 14-3 overall.

The Cobbers stated the game in a 9-0 hole and never got on track in the first 20 minutes of play. Concordia trailed 33-26 at the break and then went wild in the second period of play. CC put up runs of 12-0, 10-0 and 14-0 as they turned a 37-28 deficit into a 55-43 lead. The Cobbers would then turn that lead into 30-point margin by outscoring the Royals 27-9 in a span of 8:51.

Concordia's 58 points in the second half are a season high and the most since the 2008-09 season when they scored 59 in the second period of a 101-78 victory over St. Catherine.

The Cobbers shot a blistering 60.0% (21-for-35) from the floor in the second half. They made 21 field goals in the second period which is one fewer than Bethel made in the entire game. Concordia was a perfect 15-for-15 from the free throw line. CC also outrebound the Royals 31-10 in the final 20 minutes of play.

Concordia had six players with at least five points in the second half. Senior guard Erika Jossart was 3-for-3 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free throw line and had 10 points in the second half. Olivia Johnson grabbed 10 rebounds in the second half and had six points. Johnson finished with a career-high 13 rebounds.

Greta Walsh had a team-high 16 points in the game. She was 5-for-11 from the floor and also added four assists. Kelsey Walloch had a key 12 points and recorded seven rebounds. Erin Januschka came away with eight points and eight rebounds.

The Cobbers will put their eight-game win streak on the line when they play at league-leading St. Mary's on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. The No.21-ranked Cardinals have a 13-game winning streak.
