The One And Only

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/22/14)—It took Concordia 23 minutes to take the drama out of their game with Macalester but it took Alexandra Lippert a full 33 minutes to let the crowd sit down and relax in their seats.

Lippert took the final drama out of the game at the 6:53 mark of the second half when she connected on a short jumper in the lane to record her 1,000th career point and become the first player in Concordia basketball history to score 1,000 points, grab at least 500 rebounds and block at least 200 shots. She finished the game by leading all players with 14 points in the Cobbers' 68-40 win over Macalester.

Lippert now has 1000 career points, 630 career rebounds and 245 career blocks. She is the fourth player in league history to join the 1000/500/200 club. Laurie Trow from St. Thomas, Laura Wendorf of St. Ben's and Annagret Nautsch from Bethel are the other three players in conference history to achieve the impressive feat.

In the end it was Lippert and her fellow Cobbers "bigs" that helped Concordia come away with a 44-23 edge in rebounding and a decisive 40-14 advantage in points in the paint which led to the 28-point win. The victory is the sixth straight for CC and moves their overall record to 12-3. The Cobbers are now 10-2 in conference play and remained tied for second place just one game behind first place. Macalester is now 3-12 in all games and 2-10 in the MIAC.

The game went back-and-forth for the first 10 minutes of the first half. Concordia finally seized control of the conference contest when they went on a 19-8 run to grab an 11-point lead at 32-21 with 1:48 left to go in the first half. The Scots would never get to within 10 points for the rest of the game.

Lippert's 14 points were a part of her 14-point, six-rebound, four-block performance. Her six rebounds was a game high. She was one of two CC players to score in double figures. Erin Januschka came off the bench to go 4-for-8 from the floor and score 10 points. Concordia's front court players came away with 31 points and 20 rebounds.

The Cobbers shot better than 45.0% from the field in each half and finished the game by connecting on 47.4% of their attempts from the floor. CC went 4-for-9 (44.4%) from 3-point range and 10-for-12 (83.3%) from the free throw line. Concordia has now shot better than 40.0% from the field in eight of the past nine games.

Concordia will put its six-game win streak on the line when they host Gustavus on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m.
