Another Incredible Achievement For Mrs. 200!

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/08/14)—Concordia head coach Jessica Rahman added another impressive accomplishment to her long list of athlete/coach honors at Concordia. Rahman guided the Cobbers to a 73-69 comeback win at Carleton to become the first coach in Concordia basketball history to record 200 career victories.

Rahman, who was a standout player for the Cobbers when they won the NCAA National Championship in 1988, was a four-time All-American, the Division III Female Athlete of the Year in 1988 and is still the school's all-time leading scorer. She was inducted into the Concordia Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998. Rahman returned to coach the Cobbers in 2003 and proceeded to help the Cobbers reach the MIAC playoffs in her first 10 seasons. She has also guided CC to an MIAC regular-season title, a pair of conference playoff championships and three trips to the NCAA Tournament in the past four seasons. Rahman, currently in her 11^th season at the helm of the Cobbers, owns a 200-80 overall record and her .702 winning percentage is the highest of any active coach at Concordia.                   

Rahman's milestone victory could be directly attributed to her halftime adjustments as Concordia trailed 37-29 at the break but then outscored Carleton 44-32 in the second period and won by four points. The Cobbers' big run came in a span of 2:48 after the Knights grabbed a 10-point lead at 46-36 at the 15:57 mark of the second half. CC then proceeded to rattle off 10 straight points to tie the game at 46-46 with 13:09 to play in the game.

The Cobbers then took a four-point lead before the Knights would tie the game at 53-53. The teams traded baskets and the game was tied for the ninth time with 6:45 to play before Concordia scored 12 of the next 15 points. CC held, what looked to be, a commanding nine-point advantage with 42-seconds to go but then Carleton scored seven of the final nine points to trim the final margin to four points.

Erin Januschka was the engine behind the Cobbers' second-half comeback. The junior forward scored 16 of her team-high 18 points in the final 20 minutes of play. She went 7-for-9 from the floor and grabbed a pair of rebounds to help Concordia win its second game in as many days.

Senior center Alexandra Lippert also came away with a double-digit scoring total in the second half. She netted 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the second period. She finished with her second double-double of the season by scoring 13 points and collecting 10 rebounds.

Concordia (8-3/6-2 MIAC) had two other players score over 10 points in the game. Alley Fisher was 6-for-8 from the free throw line and came away with 14 points. CC is now 7-0 when she scores in double figures. Kelsey Walloch also joined the parade of successful "bigs" in the game for Concordia. She kept the Cobbers in the game in the first half by scoring all of 12 of her points in the first 20 minutes. Walloch also grabbed eight rebounds.

The Cobbers now return home to face St. Catherine on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 3 p.m.
