Sorensen Grabs 500th Rebound In Win At Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/02/13)—Tricia Sorensen became the 15th player in the history of Cobber women's basketball to reach the 500 career rebound mark as she helped Concordia earn a 66-45 over Macalester.

Sorensen finished with a game-high 13 rebounds and added nine points and now has 503 career rebounds.

The victory extends Concordia's winning streak to seven games. The Cobbers have now won 13 of their last 14 games and remain on top of the MIAC standings. CC is currently 16-4 in all games and 15-7 in conference play. The 15 league wins marks the 10th straight season that Concordia has posted at least 15 conference victories. That is the longest streak of any team in the MIAC.

The victory over the Scots was earned at the start of the second half. Concordia trailed 26-24 heading into the break, but then scored the first 13 points of the second period to grab an 11-point lead at 37-26. The Cobbers would continue to hold a double-digit for most of the second half and pushed the lead past 20 points by scoring 11 of the final 13 points of the game.

Besides the 13-rebound, nine-point performance from Sorensen, guards Alley Fisher and Emily Thesing added double-digit point totals. Fisher was 3-for-4 from behind the arc and had a game-high 15 points. She had 10 points in the second half. Thesing scored 14 points and added seven rebounds and five assists. Junior center Alexandra Lippert was the third Cobber player to score in double figures. She had 12 points to go along with 11 rebounds and two blocks. It is Lippert's second double-double of the season.

The Cobbers struggled in the first half and shot only 29.4% (10-for-34) from the floor and 22.2% (2-for-9) from 3-point range. Those struggles did not follow CC out of the locker room after half and they were able to connect on 51.7% (15-for-29) of their shots from the floor and 50.0% (3-for-6) of their attempts from outside the arc in the final 20 minutes of play.

Besides the early second-half surge, Concordia dominated on the glass and held a 52-38 advantage in rebounding. It is the first time in 18 games that the Cobbers have gone over the 50-rebound mark in a single game. CC also outscored the Scots 30-20 in points in the paint.

Concordia will now turn its attention to a match-up with second-place St. Mary's on Super Bowl Sunday. The Cardinals have won nine straight games and are 14-3 in conference play. The two teams will square off on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's.
