Sorensen Named MIAC Player Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/28/13)—Cobber senior forward Tricia Sorensen was named the MIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 16.7 points and 8.7 rebounds in Concordia's three wins last week. The trio of victories helped CC jump into first place in the league standings.

Sorensen becomes the second Concordia player to earn Player of the Week honors this year and it marks the second time in her career that she has won the weekly award. Fellow senior Emily Thesing was named the MIAC Player of the Week on Jan. 7. Sorensen last won the award on Feb. 20, 2012.

Sorensen was the leader of the Cobber team that posted wins over St. Thomas, Carleton and Augsburg on the week. She finished the three-game stint by shooting a combined 55.6% from the floor, 50.0% from 3-point range and 100.0% from the free throw line.

Sorensen racked up 15 points and eight boards in Concordia's biggest win to date - a 69-62 home upset of No. 12-ranked St. Thomas last Monday. The win helped the Cobbers become the first time other than the Tommies to sit alone in first in the MIAC in more than two years. Sorensen followed with a dazzling 19-point, eight-rebound, five-assist performance in Wednesday's 60-51 road win at Carleton. She recorded her second double-double of the season Saturday, with 16 points and 10 rebounds in a 64-51 home win over Augsburg.

Sorensen currently ranks third in the MIAC in scoring with a 14.9 points per game average and is second in field goals made (107).

Concordia faces another three-game week. The Cobbers will host St. Olaf on Wednesday and then travel to Macalester on Saturday and St. Mary's on Sunday.
