Cobbers Clean Up The Glass To Beat Auggies

Moorhead, Minn. (1/26/13)—Tricia Sorensen scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season and help Concordia beat Augsburg 64-51. The win keeps the Cobbers in sole possession of first place in the MIAC standings.

Concordia outscored the Auggies 38-26 in the second half as they won for the fifth straight time and 12th time in the last 13 games. The Cobbers are now 14-4 overall and 13-2 in league play and need only one more win to clinch a conference playoff spot. Augsburg falls to 6-12 in all games and 4-11 in the MIAC.

The teams went back and forth throughout the first half but then Concordia went on a 10-2 run starting at the 15:28 mark of the second half to take the first double-digit lead in the game.

Augsburg was able to hold on to a lead for most of the opening period by outrebounding Concordia  26-14 in the first 20 minutes of play. The Auggies also had 10 offensive rebounds which led to a 9-2 edge in second chance points.

The Cobbers cleaned up the glass in the second half and outrebounded the Auggies 18-11 in the final 20 minutes of play. Concordia also shot 51.7% (15-for-29) from the floor and 33.3% (3-for-9) in the second period.

Sorensen had six of her game-high 10 rebounds in the second half while junior center Alexandra Lippert had seven points and two blocks in the final 20 minutes. Lippert finished the game with eight points, two blocks and five rebounds.

Emily Thesing was the only other Cobber player to score in double figures. She finished with 10 points and added here assists.

Concordia will stay at home when they host St. Olaf on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 5:45 p.m.
