Thesing Named MIAC Co-Player Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/07/13)—Emily Thesing used her game-winning shot at the buzzer against St. Olaf to catapult her to MIAC Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week honors. Thesing led the Cobbers' 27-point comeback in the second half against the Oles to earn the award.

It marks the first time in her career that she has been named the Player of the Week and she becomes the first CC player to earn the award since Tricia Sorensen was named the MIAC Player of the Week on Feb. 20, 2012.

Thesing's outstanding play wasn't limited to her last-second heroics. During the Cobbers' comeback in the final 20 minutes of play she scored 13 points, collected three rebounds and added a block, a steal and an assist. She got the rebound on the Ole's final two possessions and also blocked a shot during that critical stretch of play.

Thesing backed up her performance against St. Olaf with an all-around game against Macalester on Saturday in the team's 72-47 win over the Scots. She had 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Her play has helped Concordia rattle off four straight wins and has the team in sole possession of third place in the league standings. CC is 7-3 in all games and 6-1 in the MIAC. The Cobbers will face three tough tests this week when they host St. Mary's and St. Ben's on Monday and Wednesday and then finish off their grueling six-day schedule by playing Hamline at home on Saturday.
