Pressure And Inside Game Leads To 25-Point Win

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/05/13)—Concordia had 11 players score points, outscored Macalester 42-12 inside the paint and rolled to a 72-47 win over the Scots on Saturday. Tricia Sorensen had a season-high 23 points in helping the Cobbers post their fourth straight win.

Concordia started slow but then turned up their half court pressure defense and outscored Macalester 36-15 in the final 13:13 of the first half. The Cobbers took a 43-23 lead into the break and then held off the Scots in the second half to up their overall record to 7-3 on the year. CC is now 6-1 in league play and all alone in third place in the MIAC standings.

The Cobbers forced 17 turnovers in the game and routinely pressured the Macalester guards into scrambling to get into their offensive sets.  

Sorensen was on point the entire game as she went 11-for-16 from the floor and 1-for-1 from the free throw line. She was the only Cobber player with more than 12 points in the contest. Senior guard Emily Thesing finished with 12 points to go along with five assists, five rebounds and four steals. Erika Jossart had a season-high seven assists. She also had nine points. Kelsey Walloch had a team-high eight rebounds.

Concordia shot 45.3% (29-for-64) from the floor and 25.0% (4-for-16) from outside the arc. The Cobber defense held Macalester to just 33.3% (17-for-51) from the floor. The Scots were also hurt at the free throw line where they shot just 45.0% (9-for-20).

The Cobbers will continue with their four-game home stand when they host St. Mary's on Monday, Jan. 7 at 3 p.m.
