A Little Outside, A Little Inside In Win At St. Kate's

ST. PAUL, Minn. (12/08/12)—It was a little bit of the outside game and a little bit of the inside game that helped Concordia cruise past St. Kate's 82-49 in St. Paul on Saturday. The Cobbers connected on 16 more field goals and held a 25-rebound edge in pushing their overall record above the .500 mark for the first time all season.

The Cobbers shot a season-best 47.4% (9-for-19) from outside the arc and pulled down a season-high 23 offensive rebounds in pushing their overall mark to 4-3. CC is now 3-1 in conference play. The Wildcats lose for the fifth straight game and fall to 1-6 in all games and 0-5 in the MIAC.

Concordia did the majority of their damage in the second half. After St. Kate's made the final five points of the first half to cut the Cobber lead to 38-26, Concordia came out and put up 11 of the first 14 points in the second half to take a commanding 49-29 lead. Another 13-1 run midway through the period put the game away as CC rolled to a 63-34 lead with 9-minutes left in the game.

Concordia had 11 players score at least three points in the game and had six players with eight or more points. Senior all-conference forward Tricia Sorensen led the Cobbers with 13 points. The biggest all-around games were put in by Erin Januschka and Emily Thesing. Januschka had eight points and a game-high eight rebounds while Thesing had game highs in assists (5) and steals (5). Junior center Alexandra Lippert came away with 11 points and Alley Fisher connected on a pair of 3-point field goals and added 10 points.     

The Cobbers shot 48.6% (35-for-72) from the floor as compared to 38.8% (19-for-49). The 19 field goals for the Wildcats are the fewest allowed by the Cobber defense this season. In addition to the 49-23 rebounding advantage, CC also enjoyed a 20-16 edge in steals.

Concordia will now return home to host Carleton in the final game of the 2012 calendar year. The Cobbers and Knights will square off on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 5:45 p.m.
