Sorensen Named MIAC Player of the Week
MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/20/12)—Concordia
junior Tricia Sorensen (Bismarck, N.D./Century HS)
was named the MIAC Player of the Week it was announced on Monday by
the league office. It is the first time that a Cobber player has
won the award this season and the first time in her career she has
received the award.
Sorensen averaged 18.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in helping
Concordia post wins over Gustavus and St. Ben's last week. The
victories helped the Cobbers finish third in the league standings.
Concordia has now finished in the top 3 of the MIAC for four
consecutive seasons and seven of the past eight years.
In addition to her 18.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game average,
Sorensen shot 55.6% from the floor and 85.7% from the free throw
line in the two wins. She also came away with four steals and two
blocks in helping the Cobbers secure the No.3 seed for the upcoming
MIAC playoffs.
Sorensen had a huge game with 22 points, six rebounds and three
steals Wednesday in a 64-56 win over second-place Gustavus to help
boost the Cobbers' confidence heading into the MIAC Playoffs. She
followed that up with a near double-double in the regular-season
finale with 15 points and eight boards in a 63-57 win over Saint
Benedict.
Sorensen ranks in the top seven in the MIAC in three major
statistical categories this season. The Concordia junior is seventh
in scoring (13.8 points per game) and field goal percentage (.466)
and sixth in rebounding (7.1 per game).
Concordia will be making their 10th consecutive MIAC playoff
appearance, the most by any team in the MIAC, when they host Bethel
in the conference quarterfinals on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7:30
p.m.
