A Quintet Of MIAC Postseason Award Winners
MOORHEAD, Minn.
(2/29/12)--Concordia had five different players earn MIAC
postseason honors it was announced by the league office on
Wednesday. The quintet helped the Cobbers finish third in the MIAC
and advance to the semifinals of the conference tournament.
Juniors Tricia Sorensen (Bismarck, N.D./Century
HS) and Emily Thesing (Brainerd, Minn.) were
selected to the All-Conference Team while Alex
Lippert (Willmar, Minn.) earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention
honors and freshman guard Alley Fisher (Fargo,
N.D./Fargo South HS) was placed on the All-First-Year Team.
Andrea Benjamin (Sr., Tucson, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge
HS) was the team's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship
Team.
It is the first conference postseason awards for all five
players.
Sorensen led the team in scoring in MIAC play. She finished with a
14.0 points per game average in the team's 22 league games. She
also averaged a team-high 7.0 rebounds and recorded a team-high 38
steals. She was seventh in the MIAC in scoring and sixth in
rebounding. Sorensen was also ninth in field goal percentage
(46.5%).
Thesing averaged 11.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and a team-high 2.8
assists per conference game. She was sixth in the league in assists
and 15th in free throw percentage (72.8%).
Lippert made a huge impact in the middle for the Cobbers. She led
the MIAC in blocked shots (1.91/game). Lippert averaged 10.1 points
per game and 5.8 rebounds per game. She had a pair of
double-doubles in conference play and scored at least 10 points in
13 of the 22 MIAC games.
Fisher played in all 22 games in her first collegiate MIAC season.
She averaged 7.4 points and 2.2 rebounds in conference play. She
missed only four free throws all season and led the MIAC in free
throw percentage (92.3%). Fisher had a career-high 21 points at
Gustavus on Jan. 16.
