Inside Game Helps Cobbers Stay Perfect At Home

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/7/12)—Concordia led wire-to-wire and beat Carleton 56-47 on Saturday. Despite going 1-for-16 from 3-point range, the Cobber defense was able to force 19 turnovers and CC came away with a 39-34 edge in rebounding to end the team's two-game losing skid.

The win stops a two-game losing skid for Concordia. CC also remains unbeaten at home on the year. The Cobbers are now 3-0 at home and move to 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the MIAC.

Concordia's cold hand from the outside was matched by the Knight's inability to knock down shots from long distance. Carleton was 5-for-19 (26.3%) for the game but shot just 10% (1-for-10) in the first half. Both teams also shot under 40.0% for the game from the floor. The Cobbers shot 39.3% (24-for-61) while Carleton connected at a 33.3% (16-for-48) pace.

The biggest statistical difference in the game came from around the basket. In addition to the edge in rebounding, Concordia enjoyed a 26-10 in points in the paint and a 15-3 advantage in second chance points.

The Cobbers had three players with at least 12 points in the game. Junior guard Emily Thesing led all players with 16 points. Tricia Sorensen and Alex Lippert each added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Carleton (1-10/0-8 MIAC) was led by Akemi Arzouman who went 7-for-11 from the floor and finished with a game-high 19 points. Skylar Tsutsui added 11 points while Megan Meeds had seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Concordia will head back out on the road to face Hamline on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 5:45 p.m.
