A Verizon Special

ST. PAUL, Minn. (1/11/12)—Concordia tied a school record by knocking down 12 3-point field goals against Hamline and went on to post a 67-59 win in St. Paul. The Cobbers were 12-for-23 (52.2%) from outside the arc as they won for the second straight game.

A little over four days after going 1-for-16 from 3-point range against Carleton, Concordia was on fire from long range – hitting six long balls in each half. The 12 made shots from behind the arc ties the Cobber record for most made 3-point field goals in a single game. There have been at least four other games in CC history where Concordia has made a crisp dozen shots from outside the arc.

The win is the fifth in the last seven games for CC and ups their overall record to 8-4. The Cobbers are now 6-3 in conference play and jump all the way into a tie for third place in the league standings. Hamline falls for the second straight game and is now 4-8 in all games and 3-6 in the MIAC.

The Cobbers had four players make at least two long range shots in the game. Junior guard Emily Thesing was on target all night long and knocked down five 3-point baskets. She finished with a game-high 20 points and added six rebounds and four assists. Tricia Sorensen, Katelyn Holland and Alley Fisher all came away with a pair of 3-point field goals. Sorensen had 12 points to go along with eight rebounds. Holland and Fisher were a combined 4-for-6 from behind the arc. Holland ended the game with nine points and five rebounds while Fisher finished with six points and two assists.

The other area of domination for the Cobbers was on the glass where CC outrebounded the Pipers 51-34. The plus-17 rebounding margin is the second highest of the season for Concordia while the 51 boards marks the third time this year that the Cobbers have grabbed at least 50 rebounds in a game. Not surprisingly, CC is 3-0 in those contests. Alex Lippert led the CC glass attack. She amassed a game-high nine rebounds and was one of seven Concordia players with at least four rebounds in the game.

One area for concern for Concordia came in the turnover department. The Cobbers committed 21 miscues in the game, marking only the third time all year long they have recorded 20 or more turnovers in a game.

Hamline had only two players with more than nine points in the game. Jordan Simmons led all Pipers with 18 points and also had a team-high seven rebounds.

Concordia will now return to Moorhead to host league-leading St. Thomas on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 1 p.m.
