Second Straight Road Loss

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/4/11)—Concordia was unable to stop St. Olaf from scoring around the basket and deal with the Ole half court defense and lost 66-51 in Northfield on Wednesday. The Cobbers were outrebounded 39-27 and outscored 30-10 in points in the paint as they lost for the second straight game.

The two teams entered the game deadlocked in the MIAC standings with a 4-2 record. The loss drops CC into fifth place with a 4-3 mark. Concordia is now 6-4 overall. St. Olaf improves to 5-2 in league play and 8-2 overall.  

The Cobbers led only once in the game and allowed a 13-0 run with under 6:00 to play in the first half. St. Olaf's game-changing run, which started at the 5:52 mark with the Oles holding a one-point lead at 25-24, ended with just over 1:30 to play and St. Olaf gaining a 38-24 advantage. Concordia was never able to get within 14 points in the final 20 minutes of play.

Emily Thesing and Tricia Sorensen led the Cobbers in scoring. Thesing was 5-for-9 from the floor and finished with 15 points and Sorensen had a pair of 3-point field goals and added 10 points.

Kirstee Rotty did the majority of the damage for the Oles. She was 8-for-15 from the floor and had a game-high 20 points. She also had a team-high five rebounds. Elise Roney came off the bench to add 11 points on a 5-for-6 shooting performance.   

The Cobbers return home and will face Carleton in Moorhead on Saturday at 1 p.m.
