Fisher Is Perfect But Cobbers Fall At Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. (1/16/12)—Despite a perfect shooting night from freshman Alley Fisher, Concordia never led against Gustavus and lost 87-72 in St. Peter on Monday.  Fisher went 5-for-5 from the floor, 2-for-2 outside the arc and 9-for-9 from the free throw line to post a career-high 21 points.

The 87 points allowed by the Cobbers is the most since the third game of the 2009-10 campaign when CC lost 89-54 to MSU Moorhead. The loss is also the second straight for CC and fourth in the past six games. Concordia is now 8-6 overall and 6-5 in the conference. Gustavus has now won nine straight games and moves to 12-2 in all games and 10-1 in the MIAC.

The game was decided in the first 3:26 of play in the opening half. Gustavus bolted out to a 14-3 lead and made six of their first seven shots of the game. On the other side of the court the Cobbers went 1-for-3 with three turnovers in that same time period.

Concordia trailed by as many as 19 points in the first half but then rattled off a 14-5 run in the final 6:14 of play and were down by 10 heading into the second period. The Cobbers got a 3-point bucket from Emily Thesing to start the second half to cut the lead to seven points but then Gustavus responded with an 8-0 run to take control of the game for good.

The Cobbers shot 46.7% (21-for-45) from the floor and 36.8% (7-for-19) from 3-point range but committed 19 turnovers and allowed those miscues to turn into a 26-9 edge in points off of turnovers.

In addition to Fisher's 21 points, the Cobbers received double-digit scoring totals from Thesing and Erika Joassart. Thesing finished with 19 points and Jossart added 12. Tricia Sorensen had a game-high seven rebounds.

Gustavus knocked down nine 3-point field goals and were led by Molly Geske who went 10-for-13 from the floor and had a game-high 25 points.

Concordia will look to put a halt on their two-game skid when they host Macalester on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 5:45 p.m.
