Bio

Jen Smart begins her first season as an assistant coach for the Cobbers. She has a wealth of playing and coaching experience and will be a huge addition to the coaching staff.

Smart, a native of Brandon, Manitoba, played four seasons for Cobber Head Coach Chad Slyter at Valley City State University (Valley City, ND) and served as an assistant softball at Williston State College (Williston, ND).

In her four years at Valley City State Smart had a career average of .284. In her senior seasonSmart hit a career-high .321 while also scoring a career best 25 runs. Smart was also the team's No.2 pitcher in her senior season and compiled a 10-6 record and an impressive 2.84 earned run average. She was in the circle for 88 innings, had eight complete games and also earned one complete-game shutout.

As an assistant coach at Williston State, Smart was involved in all aspects of the program and helped lead the team to a 21-12 record in their inaugural season. She was a part of a second-place finish in the Mon-Dak Conference and helped six players earn Mon-Dak All-Conference honors.

Smart will serve primarily as a pitching coach for the Cobbers but will be involved in all aspects of the program.

Smart graduated from Valley City State in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and received her master’s degree from the University of Mary in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Smart resides in Fargo with her husband Baron and two children, Jayden and Peyton.
