Erholtz Goes Yard Twice At St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (4/10/21)---Concordia ran into one of the top teams in the MIAC and dropped a pair of games at St. Olaf. The Cobbers fell 12-2 in six innings in Game 1 and were edged 3-1 in the second game against the Oles who were ranked in the Top 25 of Division III earlier in the area.

Senior Taylor Erholtz was the offensive highlight for the day for Concordia. She hit in homer in both games and now has a team-leading three long balls on the year.

The second game also featured two of the top pitchers in the MIAC. Cobber senior Megan Gavin, who leads the MIAC in strikeouts and ERA went 6.0 innings and struck out seven. She gave up three earned runs in the second inning and blanked the Oles the rest of the way out. Gavin now has a conference-best 118 Ks for the season. She also upped her career strikeout mark to 395 and needs five more Ks to become the second pitcher in program history to reach the 400-strikeout level.

The first game featured 24 total hits. The Cobbers grabbed a 2-0 in the top of the second inning when Erholtz and Kenzie Leither led off the inning with back-to-back long balls. CC threatened to score more in the second but couldn't come up with a timely hit with two outs and runners on second and third.

St. Olaf made it a 1-run game when they posted their first run of the day in the bottom of the second. The Oles broke open the first game when they scored seven times in the fourth. They finished off the opener with a 4-run sixth inning.

Concordia had nine hits in Game 1. Riley Bergstrom and Hannah Wilke both had multiple-hit games. Bergstrom was 2-for-4 to record her fourth multi-hit game of the year and Wilke went 2-for-3. She now has three multiple-hit games in 2021.
