First Cobber MIAC POW Since 2012

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/11/19)--- Concordia sophomore Megan Gavin used her six wins in Florida to earn MIAC Pitcher of the Week honors. Gavin becomes the first Cobber player to earn conference pitcher, or player, of the week honors since 2012.

Gavin went 6-1 in Florida and recorded all six wins for Concordia who finished with their best record on a spring break trip since 1999. Gavin's six wins are four more than she had in all of last year.

Gavin finished the spring break trip by pitching in nine of the team's 10 games and had 45.0 innings pitched. She didn't allow more than two runs in an outing and allowed fewer than two runs in six of her nine appearances.

Gavin ended the Florida games by recording a 1.56 earned run average. She struck out 60 batters in her 45.0 innings of work which is only 16 Ks shy of her total all of last season when she threw 87.2 innings.

Gavin won her first six games on the trip and had her best outing against Simpson (Iowa) when she pitched a complete-game shutout and struck out seven. She had a pair of double-digit strikeout games. She fanned a career-high 13 batters in the Cobbers' 7-3 win over Rosemont. Her previous career high came last season when she struck out 11 against Finlandia.

Gavin will look to continue her early-season success when Concordia hosts the annual Cobber Dome Tournament in West St. Paul on Mar. 20-21.
