Youth Movement Continues

MOORHEAD, Minn. (6/18/18)---The youth movement will continue for the Cobbers as head coach Chad Slyter announced another outstanding recruiting class.

A year after posting the biggest recruiting class in program history, Slyter has backed that up with another double-digit incoming class that also features several top team players.

"I couldn't be more excited about the 2018 class," Slyter commented. "It might be one of the most athletic recruiting classes that I've ever had."

Once again Slyter relied heavily on Minnesota talent, of the 11 players committed to play for the Cobbers in 2019, eight hail from the Gopher state. Slyter also picked up players from Montana, Illinois and Manitoba.

The 2019 recruiting class is mainly infielders. Slyter will bring in six infielders, a pair of catchers, two outfielders and a pitcher.

In addition to quantity, the 11 incoming players have shown quality in their prep careers. The 2019 recruiting class features seven players who were named to All-Conference teams in 2018. There was also a quintet of All-State players as well as four players who were captain of their high school squad.

Slyter also added a standout community college player to the mix. Andrea Wagoner, who played at Central Lakes Community College in 2018, led the nation in home runs with 17. She was also third in the nation in RBI (72) and batted .531 for the year. Wagoner also pitched for Central Lakes where she posted a conference-best 2.48 earned run average and struck out 58 batters in 65 innings.

"This group will make an immediate impact in the program in the spring of 2019," Slyter said. "They will also provide depth and give our program stability as we continue to move forward."
