Cobbers Swept In Northfield

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (4/27/18)---Concordia was done in by a seven-run sixth inning in Game 1 and three multiple-run innings in Game 2 and lost 12-4 and 8-0 at Carleton.

The Cobber offense produced 10 hits in the twinbill but couldn't overcome six errors which cost Concordia five unearned runs.

Concordia (4-30-/0-18 MIAC) clawed their way back in the opener. CC trailed 5-1 heading into the fourth inning but then scored two runs in the fourth and once more in the fifth to get to within one at 5-4. Carleton (13-14/8-9 MIAC) then plated seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game via the 8-run rule.

The Cobbers had six hits in the first game. Freshman Megan Gavin went 1-for-3 and had a solo home run in the second inning to give CC a 1-0 lead. It was Gavin's second long ball of the season.

Maycen Kirchner was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs while Riley Bergstrom, Kayla Nack and Sydney Roberts all had single-hit games in the opener.

Abby Haraldson pitched all six innings. She only walked one and struck out five.

Concordia fell behind early in the second game. The Knights scored twice in the first inning and four more times in the second to seize control of the nightcap.

The best chance for the Cobbers to score came in the fourth inning. Roberts was on second base with two outs and was then thrown out at the plate after Gavin singled through the left side of the infield.

Bergstrom went 2-for-2 in Game 2 while Gavin and Roberts also had a base knock to come away with hits in both games.

Gavin pitched the 4.0 innings in the run-shortened game. She allowed only three earned runs and struck out one.

SLOW STARTERS: Concordia allowed two runs in the first inning of Game 2 which continued a season-long trend of getting off to a slow start.
