Second Indoor Day Same As The First

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (4/08/18)---The second day of the Cobbers' back-to-back inside conference doubleheaders played out as a near carbon copy of the first day. Concordia was one-hit in Game 1 and then rallied offensively in the second game only to fall again.

The Cobbers lost 8-0 in five innings in the opener against Bethel in the Dundas Dome in Northfield and then lost 8-1 in the finale.

Concordia came up with seven hits, and held a 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning, in Game 2 but allowed a trio of multiple-run innings and lost for the fourth straight game to start the conference season.

Kayla Nack went 2-for-4 in the second game on Saturday against Macalester and duplicated her hit total on Sunday. She had a pair of singles, and went 2-for-3, in the finale to lead the offensive attack.

Freshman third baseman Riley Bergstrom recorded the first multiple-hit game of her collegiate career as she went 2-for-3 in Game 2 and also had a pair of singles.

Concordia's lone run of the weekend came in the first inning of the second game when Brooke Ankerfelt lashed a one-out double to left field and then scored when Megan Gavin reached on an error.

Senior Abby Haraldson started the second game and pitched the first five innings. She struck out five batters and allowed six earned runs on 11 hits. Gavin pitched a scoreless sixth inning and faced the minimum number of batters after giving up a walk and then inducing a double play to end the inning.

The Cobbers also recorded their only hit of the opener in the first inning. Betsy Asp came through with a two-out single up the middle for CC's only base knock of the game.

Freshman Brynn Sundgaard went all four innings in the circle for the Cobbers. She allowed seven earned runs on eight hits and struck out a single batter.

SHE'S GOT THE KNACK: Senior Kayla Nack led the Cobbers in hits over the weekend. She went 4-for-12 (.333) in the four games and leads the team with a .345 average this year.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will head back to the waiting game. The Cobbers are scheduled to host Gustavus on Tuesday, Apr. 10 but that doubleheader will be pushed to a later date because of more snow that fell in the F-M area on Sunday.
