Record-Setting Recruiting Class

Record-Setting Recruiting Class

MOORHEAD, Minn. (6/15/17)--- Concordia head coach Chad Slyter made a big-time splash with his first recruiting class. Slyter released his very first recruiting class which includes a program-record 18 incoming first-year players.

The incoming class of 18 student/athletes is the most in the 31-year history of the program. To put the incredible incoming class into perspective, the 2018 Cobber roster will feature more first-year players than the returning players combined.

"In order to get where we want to be with the program I needed to bring in a strong group of student/athletes," commented Slyter. "This first group of players is a tremendous step in making upwards strides in the MIAC and quality of play for the team."

The majority of the 18 incoming athletes hail from Minnesota. Of the 18 first-year players next season, 14 are from Minnesota. Slyter also brought in student/athletes from North Dakota, Iowa and Canada.

The 2017-18 recruiting class also encompasses all positions on the diamond and a pair of pitchers. The new recruits have five players who can play catcher, five infielders and eight outfielders.

The 18 incoming freshman would represent the largest number of players on an overall team since 2010. Concordia is slated to have 32 players on the 2018 roster which is another program record. The previous largest Cobber roster was fielded in 2007.

The new recruiting class will be hoping to help Concordia reach the upper half of the MIAC in the next four seasons. The Cobbers have finished in the bottom third of the conference the past six seasons. The last time CC placed higher than ninth was in 2011 and the last time Concordia was in the top five of the league was in 2002.

"I am excited to see the hard work pay off that Jen (assistant coach Jen Smart) and I put forth on the recruiting trail," added Slyter. "While the excitement level for the program is high right now in June it will be even more fun come February when we start practice."
