ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (4/24/17)--- Concordia finished off its rare tripleheader weekend by falling 11-0 and 7-2 at Bethel. The twinbill was the third straight for the Cobbers who started their six-game swing at home on Saturday against St. Catherine.

Like most games in the recent streak it was the big inning that cost Concordia. The Cobbers gave up a five-run and four-run inning in the opener and then a four-run frame in the second game. Take those three innings out of the equation and Concordia would have been within two runs in each game.

The Cobbers had two hits in Game 1 and then three in the finale. Devonie Smith was the only CC player with a hit in each game. She went 1-for-2 in the first game and then 1-for-3 with a run scored in the second game.

Bethel  (11-20/7-12 MIAC) scored a single run in the first inning of the second game but then the Cobbers rallied to tie the game with a lone run in the top of the second.

Smith led off the inning with a single and then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Olivia Lien. Smith would score on a ground ball out off the bat of Betsy Asp.

The Royals then regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Sydney Roberts led off the fourth with a single in the fourth but wasn't able to score. The Cobbers got to within one run in the top of the fifth when Nicole Johannes coaxed a one-out walk. She advanced to second when Brooke Swarthout also walked. Johannes came around to score on an error by the pitcher.

The one-run deficit would last until the sixth when Bethel scored four times on three hits.

MADI AND SYD: Concordia had 17 hits in the six games over the weekend with Madison Little and Sydney Roberts combining to collect nine of the 17. Little went 5-for-17 (.294) over the six games and Roberts was 4-for-15 (.267). The rest of the Cobbers went 8-for-96 (.083) in the six games over the weekend.

DEFENSE ON DUTY: Concordia committed only one error in the two games against Bethel. That marks the third time this season, and second of the weekend, that the Cobbers only had one miscue in a conference twinbill. CC had six errors in the six games in the back-to-back-to-back DHs. CC is averaging 2.05 errors per game this year.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will cap its non-conference schedule when they play at MSU Moorhead on Thursday, Apr. 27 at 3:30. The doubleheader was originally scheduled to be played on Apr. 20. The Dragons are 8-33 on the year and have lost 11 straight.
