Single Season Stolen Base Queen

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/22/17)--- In a day that didn't feature many highlights for Concordia it was senior Madison Little that stole the show.

Little went 3-for-6 on the day and stole two bases to break the school record for stolen bases in a single season. Here two swipes give her 25 for the season which eclipse the old mark of 24 set by Kelli Niess in 2007.

Little's base path exploits weren't enough for the Cobbers as they lost 18-1 and 16-1 to St. Catherine.

Concordia (8-24/0-16 MIAC) started the day on a positive note. The Cobbers didn't allow a run in the first two innings of play and had a 1-0 lead after sophomore Sydney Roberts clouted her fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning.

The Wildcats tied the game with a single run in the top of the third. Concordia had a chance to tie the game, or take the lead, in the bottom of the third when Little singled with one out and then stole second to tie the program's single-season stolen base record. Cora Zackrison then walked to put runners on first and second with only one. Unfortunately for CC they couldn't come up with a clutch hit and stranded Little and Zackrison on the base paths.

The Cobbers were then done in by a pair of big-run innings. St. Catherine scored six runs on six hits in the fifth and added 10 more runs on nine hits in the seventh.

St. Catherine (22-10/10-4 MIAC) jumped on the board early and often in the second game. They scored four times in the first and then added five-run frames in the third and fifth.

Concordia's lone run in Game 2 came in the fifth inning when Taylor Rasmussen was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and advanced to third on Nicole Johannes' second double of the game. She eventually scored on a ground ball out.

Little and Johannes accounted for all three of the Cobber hits in the second game. Johannes was 2-for-2 with the two doubles.

SWIPER MORE SWIPING: Madison Little now has 25 stolen bases for the season and 56 for her career. Her previous single-season high was 16 steals during last season. Her 56 steals is second on the school's all-time list. Kelli Niess is the program record holder with 69 career steals.

TEAM THIEF TOTAL: Concordia now has 53 stolen bases as a team which is the third highest total in the MIAC. It is also the most stolen bases by a Cobber team since the 1997 season when the team had 54 steals. The school record for steals by a team in a single year is 65 set back in 1996.

CLOUT QUEEN: Sydney Roberts has four home runs on the year which leads the team and is tied for fourth in the MIAC. Roberts now has 11 round trippers in her first two seasons in maroon and gold. The school record for home runs in a career is 21 set by Kaia Sele from 2010-13.

WHAT'S NEXT: The doubleheader on Saturday was the first of three consecutive twinbills for the Cobbers. Concordia will play at Hamline on Sunday, Apr. 24 and then head up Snelling Ave. to take on Bethel on Monday, Apr. 25.
