Four Cobbers Earn MIAC Recognition

Four Cobbers Earn MIAC Recognition

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/16/16)—Concordia had four players earn MIAC postseason honors.

Abigail Haraldson was the team's lone representative on the MIAC All-Conference Team while Madison Little and Mackenzie McCloud earned MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors and Devonie Smith was the team's selection for the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Little is the only one of the four to repeat as an all-conference honoree. She was placed on the MIAC All-Conference Team last season.

The four players led Concordia to an 11th-place finish in the league standings with a 5-17 conference record. The five wins in MIAC play are the most by the Cobbers since 2012. Concordia came away with 18 overall wins which is the most since the 2002 season.

Haraldson had a breakout season in her junior year. She led the MIAC in strikeouts in conference games. Haraldson pitched in 20 of the team's 22 MIAC games and came away with 107 K's. She finished second in the MIAC in strikeouts in overall games. Haraldson had fanned 200 batters during the year. Both her conference and overall strikeout totals are new school records.

Haraldson, who went 4-14 in the conference, had at least five strikeouts in 12 of her 20 conference appearances. Her season high in K's came on May 2 when she fanned 11 Augsburg batters in the first game of the doubleheader.

Haraldson was also second in the MIAC in innings pitched in league games. She was in the circle for 114.2 innings. Haraldson finished her league season with a 3.48 ERA and held batters to a .249 average.

Almost all of Haroldson's overall statistics were career-best numbers. She finished with a 3.41 ERA in her 37 games. She pitched 188.2 innings and won 12 games. Her 188.2 innings pitched is also a new single-season school record. She now has a lifetime ERA of 3.85 and her 304 career K's are 67 shy of the school's all-time strikeout mark of 371 set by Erin Gunderson in 1999-02.

Little was second on the team in batting average in league games. She appeared in 21 MIAC ggames and had a .273 average. She had at least one hit 12 conference games and had a season-high three hits against Bethel and Carleton when she went 3-for-4 in both games.

Little surpassed the 100-hit mark during the season. She earned her milestone bas knock on Apr. 14 against Bethel when she had three hits in the second game. She is only the 15th player in program history to reach the 100-hit mark.

Little hit over .300 for the second straight season in all games. She finished with a .328 average in 2016 and now has 112 career hits and a .319 average in her three years at Concordia.

Like Haroldson, McCloud had a breakout season in 2016. As a freshman in 2015, McCloud hit .175 against league opponents, had a .214 on-base percentage and a .275 slugging percentage. As a sophomore in 2016, McCloud led the team in average with a .350 mark. She also led the team with her .394 on-base percentage and was second on the team with a .467 slugging percentage. McCloud also had a team-high 21 hits in the MIAC with four doubles and five RBI.

McCloud played in 21 conference games and had at least one hit in all but five of those contests. She had five multiple-hit games and ended the year with three straight games where she put up two base knocks.

McCloud led the team with a .364 average in all games and finished with a .533 slugging percentage and a .407 on-base percentage.
