MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/27/15)—Mackee Hoffman's two-out three-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Concordia seniors the perfect going away present as the Cobbers beat Division II Bemidji State 8-5 in game 2 to gain a split in the final games of the 2015 season.
Hoffman broke open a 5-5 tie game in the sixth inning when she laced a double into the right-center field gap with two outs and the bases loaded. The three runs proved to be the difference in the final game of the career of the three Cobber seniors.
Concordia finished the 2015 campaign with a 13-24 overall record. The 13 wins are the most since the 2009 season. The win in the final game was also the Cobbers' first home victory of the season.
Bemidji State ends their season with an 18-30 overall record.
The win over the Beavers was the perfect ending to the careers of Hillary Rotunda, Ashley Tibbetts and Kellie Morehouse. All three played a part in earning the victory in their final contest at Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.
Rotunda earned the win in the circle as she pitched 7.0 innings and didn't allow an earned run. She gave up five hits and struck out eight in her final game in maroon and gold. Rotunda didn't let a Bemidji State batter on base courtesy of a walk. She finishes the 2015 season with a career-best 3.34 ERA. She wound up striking out 102 hitters in 130.0 innings pitched.
Tibbetts was 1-for-3 with a run scored, a RBI and a double in her last game as a Cobber. She scored the opening run of the game for CC in the team's three-run second inning. She then had a double in her second-to-last at-bat in the fifth frame.
Morehouse was also 1-for-3 and had a double. She was stranded at second base in the fourth inning.
Concordia finished the final game with nine hits and outhit the Beavers 9-5.
Hoffman's bases-clearing double in the sixth was a part of a three-hit performance in the second game. She also singles in the third and fifth innings.
Freshman Mackenzie McCloud had the other multiple-hit game for Concordia in game 2. She was 2-for-3, scored a run and drove in a run. She also used her speed to turn a long single into a double in the second inning.
The opener was decided by a pair of big innings from Bemidji State. The Beavers came up four runs in the first inning and then added three more in the sixth. Both multiple-run frames were powered by home runs.
Concordia scored both of their runs in the sixth inning when Madison Little scored on an error and then Hoffman singled home Gabby Gardner from third base.
The Cobbers had six hits in the first game with Little and Gardner both going 2-for-4. The top 2 hitters in the CC lineup also scored a single run.
The two hits in the first game helped Little finish with a team-best .360 batting average for the year.
