MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/18/15)—The early innings cost Concordia in their doubleheader against Macalester. The Cobbers gave up two runs in each of the first two innings of game 1 and lost 4-3 and then allowed three runs in the first in the second game and fell 3-0.
Concordia staged a late-game rally in the first game, scoring a single run in the sixth and then adding a pair of runs in the seventh. CC had the game-tying run on third in the seventh but were unable to score after a wild pitch was retrieved quickly which allowed the runner to be thrown out before scoring.
Hillary Rotunda allowed only two earned runs and five hits in seven innings of work. She struck out six and has now struck out 83 batters on the year which is the most in her career. Her previous season-high came last year when she fanned 79 batters.
The Cobbers had four hits in the opener. Kellie Morehouse was the only CC batter with more than one hit. She went 2-for-3 and scored one of the three Concordia runs. Mackenzie Jensen was 1-for-3, and also reached on an error, and scored twice. Madison Little came up with the only other hit for the Cobbers.
The second game was decided by the three runs in the first and the pitching of Scot starter Brittany Ehmann. Ehmann only allowed the Cobber offense to come up with one hit.
Concordia sophomore pitcher Abigail Haraldson nearly matched Ehmann pitch-for-pitch as she didn't allow an earned run and gave up only four hits. Haraldson also struck out eight batters.
Haraldson has been on fire in her last three outings. During that time she has pitched 19.0 innings, given up just four earned runs and 12 hits and struck out 19.
Morehouse had the only hit for Concordia in the second game. She broke up the no-hitter in the bottom of the seventh with a single to center field. Morehouse was 1-for-3 for the game and 3-for-6 on the day.
Concordia will take to the road for a non-conference doubleheader at Jamestown on Monday, Apr. 20 at 3 p.m.
