Sele Tabbed As Assistant Coach

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/02/14)—Concordia head coach Mike Reese announced that former All-MIAC fastpitch player Kaia Sele has been hired as the assistant coach for the 2014 season. Sele, who was a three-time All-MIAC award winner, is the school's all-time leader in home runs and hits.

"To be able to hire someone of Kaia's caliber is a great asset for our program," said Reese who is entering his second season at the helm of the Cobbers. "She was one of the best players in school history and will help our program continue to develop as we go forward."

Sele was the team's starting first baseman for four seasons from 2010-13. She finished her career with 153 hits and 21 home runs – both are program records. Sele had a .381 batting average over the course of her 135-game career. Sele had at least four long balls and 15 runs batted in all four season. She came away with a .443 on-base average and a .649 slugging percentage.

In her addition to her prowess at the plate, Sele was also one of the anchors for the Cobber defense. She finished her career with a .974 fielding percentage and led the team in total chances and putouts in all four seasons.

When asked about the decision to hire Sele, Reese went on to say, "what really makes Kaia special is her character on and off the diamond. She was a great player but an even better teammate and that quality will help this year's team immensely."

Concordia opens the 2014 season on Feb. 27 when they play in the Space Coast Spring Games. The Cobbers will play nine games in Cocoa, Fla. on their annual spring break trip.
