Late Inning/Early Inning Switcheroo In Season Finale

MANKATO, Minn. (5/03/13)—Unlike the first game of the MIAC Round Robin Tournament where the late innings doomed Concordia, it was the early innings that cost the Cobbers in their 11-3 loss in the second game of the tournament against Hamline.

Concordia gave up four runs in the first frame and then single scores in the third and fourth as they saw their season come to an end. The Cobbers finish the year with a 7-19 overall record. Hamline wins for the second straight time, improves to 18-15 on the year and advances to face St. Olaf for the right to head to the MIAC Tournament.

Hamline had two multi-run innings in the second round game against the Cobbers. They scored four times in the first and then five more in the fifth. The four-run first took the wind out of the sails for Concordia. CC grabbed one back in the top of the third before the Pipers answered with single runs of their own in the third and fourth.

Cobber sophomore Paige Beseman had two of the team's three hits in the game and also had the lone two RBI. Beseman went 2-for-3 and finished the year with a nine-game hitting streak. Beseman also finished the year with a team-high .403 batting average.

Mackenzie Jensen had the other CC hit in the game and finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Jensen scored a run in both Cobber tournament games on Friday. Jensen hit .300 over the last four games of the season.
