There's No Place Like Dome

ROCHESTER, Minn. (3/10/12)—Concordia used a five-run sixth inning to come from behind and beat Bethel 9-7 in a non-conference game held at the Rochester Dome on Saturday. The win is the second of the year for the Cobbers and opens up the northern portion of their schedule.

Concordia (2-9) trailed 7-3 heading into the top of the sixth inning but then exploded for five runs on five hits in the game-deciding sixth frame. The two big hits of the inning came from juniors Kaia Sele and Joelle Link. Sele had a two-run single and then link doubled in Sele with the game-winning run later in the inning. It was the only extra-base hit of the game for the Cobbers.

The Cobbers added an insurance run in the seventh inning when Kayla Hendrickson singled, stole second and then scored on an error.

Concordia pounded out 10 hits in the game marking the second straight game they have had recorded double-digit hit totals. Hendrickson led the CC hit parade. She was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Freshman Ashley Tibbetts went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs.  Heather Jonasson was 2-for-5 from the leadoff position and scored twice.

Cobber senior pitcher Kesley Jones pitched a complete game to earn her first win of the season.  She allowed four earned runs, nine hits struck out four and walked two.

Bethel (1-2) had nine hits on the day. Rachel Gilbert led the Royals by going 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs. Anja Erlandson pitched all seven innings and struck out five.

Concordia will now have an 18-day break before opening up conference play on Wednesday, Mar. 28 when they play at St. Olaf at 3:30 p.m.
