Sele Named MIAC Player Of The Week - Again

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/02/12)—For the second time in the past three weeks Concordia junior first baseman Kaia Sele (Bemidji, Minn.) has been named the MIAC Player of the Week. Sele hit .600 in the Cobbers' six games and broke the school record for the longest consecutive-game hitting streak.

Sele had a 1.050 slugging percentage knocked home seven runs and had three doubles and two home runs in helping Concordia post a 3-3 record over the week. The Cobbers posted splits against conference top 6 teams St. Ben's and Augsburg over the weekend.

Sele's amazing season continued as she hit safely in all six games during the week and extended her school record hitting streak to 18 games. She has not had at least one hit in 26 of the team's 27 games this year. In addition to her hitting streak record, Sele added to her school record career home run total. She hit home runs against St. Ben's and Augsburg and now has 16 for her career. Her mammoth blast against the Auggies cleared the right field fence and pinged off the retaining wall next to highway 94.

Sele is now hitting  .483 with 28 RBI in all games. She also has scored 22 runs, has 11 doubles and six home runs with an .816 slugging percentage, a .545 on-base percentage and a .984 fielding percentage. She currently leads the MIAC in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, RBI, hits, runs, home runs, doubles and total bases in conference games.

The 3-3 record against conference competition last week helped Concordia improve to 8-19 overall and 6-8 in MIAC play. The Cobbers will hit the road on Thursday for a 3:30 p.m. conference twinbill at Bethel in Arden Hills and then return home on Saturday to host first-place St. Thomas at 1 p.m.
