Smith Steps Into No.1 To Lead Cobbers At Season-Opening Meet

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (9/03/22)—Senior Leo Smith stepped into the role as the Cobbers' No.1 runner in the season-opening meet in St. Cloud. Smith, who takes over for All-American Munir Isahak, finished third in the dual against St. John's at the Boulder Ridge GC.

Smith was the only Concordia runner to finish in the Top 7 of the meet as he cruised to a 21:32 over the 6400-meter course. His time was only 4.5 seconds away from a second-place finish.

Freshman Jonathan Krueger gave head coach Maddie Van Beek an optimistic view of the future as he posted a Top 10 finish in his very first collegiate meet. Krueger, the East Grand Forks HS product, clocked a 22:06 which was less than 12-seconds off a Top 5 finish.

Senior Solomon Johnson rounded out the Top3 for CC. He finished in 12th place with a time of 22:38.

Concordia had a trio of runners post finishes from 16-18. Tanner Olson led the group of 3 with a mark of 22:51. Carter Ferber was close behind at 22:56 and Lucas Hinojos finished 18th at 23:05.
