Wicklund Earns MIAC Weekly Honor

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/10/17)---Eric Wicklund was named the MIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his Top 10 performance at the Jamestown Invitational.

Wicklund becomes the first Cobber to earn the award since 2011 when Tom Sederquist was named the MIAC Athlete of the Week on Oct. 10.

Wicklund posted a season-best time on an 8K course at the Jamestown meet on Friday. He clocked a 25:45 which was good for ninth place in a meet that was mainly NCAA Division II and NAIA schools.

Cobber head coach Garrick Larson attributed Wicklund's success to his off-season training and being healthy. "Eric worked hard during the spring and summer months to get ready for the fall," said Larson. "He has taken that training and it has given him an optimistic outlook before every meet. I can't wait to see what the next few weeks hold for him."

The ninth-place finish marked the second time this season Wicklund has finished in the Top 10 of an event. He won the season-opening Cobber Invite in a time of 16:17 over the 5K course. Sederquist was the runner-up in that meet – almost 10 seconds behind Wicklund.

Wicklund also led the Cobbers at the MSU Moorhead Twilight Meet when he ran a 19:23 and finished in 16th place. Wicklund's only other 8K race came at the St. Olaf Invite where he ran a 27:25 and was the No.36 finisher in a meet of 278 individual runners.
