Wahlin Shines Even At Night

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (9/05/14)—Concordia sophomore Carl Wahlin has now proven that he can lead Concordia in the daylight or at night. Wahlin paced the Cobbers in the opening meet of the season last weekend and on Friday he was the team's No.1 runner in the dark of the night at the Augustana Twilight Meet.

Wahlin covered the lighted 4-mile course in a time of 19:35.68 which was good for 34th place in a meet that featured over 280 runners from 22 different Division I, II or III or NAIA schools. As a team Concordia finished in 15th place.

Wahlin's time was just 3-seconds faster than teammate Ryan Sederquist who came home in 19:39.94. The pair has blossomed into a great rivalry in maroon and gold with each runner pushing the other to become faster and faster. The duo gave the Cobbers two runners in the top 40. CC was one of only nine schools at the meet to accomplish that feat.

Freshman Brendan Johnson was the team's No.3 runner at the night meet. He finished in a time of 21:13.86. He was one of two CC freshmen to place in the squad's top 5 scorers. Fellow first-year athlete Erik Larson was the No.5 runner and crossed the line in a time of 21:38.10. Senior Tim Peterson was tucked in between the freshmen. He clocked a 21:16.53. It is the second straight meet he has been among the top 5 for Concordia.

The Cobbers will return to daylight racing when they compete in the MSU Moorhead Invite on Friday, Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. at the Ponderosa GC in Glyndon.
