Sederquist Caps Stellar Career at NCAA Meet

OSHKOSH, Wis. (11/19/11)—Concordia senior Tom Sederquist finished off his outstanding career by placing 39th at the NCAA Division III National Cross Country Meet on Saturday at UW-Oshkosh. It is the highest finish by a Cobber runner at the national meet since 1979 when John Mutschelknaus placed 23rd.

Sederquist ran a 24:51.29 at the national meet which was less than four seconds behind All-American status - the top 35 finishers earn All-American honors. Bryan Marsh of Wesleyan finished in 35th place with a time of 24:47.02. Sederquist was the third highest finisher from the MIAC at the national meet.

Sederquist caps his career by earning back-to-back All-Region honors as well as back-to-back All-Conference awards. He finished in the top six of the region for two straight years and was in the top 5 of the conference in both his junior and senior seasons.

Sederquist was named the MIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week a school-record five times. He also won six different individual championships in meets during his junior and senior seasons. His top performance came at the Roy Griak Invite hosted by the University of Minnesota in 2010 when he recorded a time of 25:39.2 and won the event by almost five seconds. He is one of only a few MIAC runners to have ever won that event.
