Sakrismo And Stunek Steal The Show

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (10/14/11)— Once again the senior class came through for the Cobbers as Tanner Sakrismo and Jake Stunek both posted top 10 finishes at the Jamestown Invitational to help Concordia finish in third place.

Sakrismo continued his outstanding senior year by running a 27:54 over the 8K course and finishing in fifth place. It is his second straight top 5 finish and third of the season. Last week Sakrismo finished second at the UMD Pine Hill Invite.

Stunek finally stepped out of the shadows and into the spotlight as he posted his first career top 10 finish in an 8K race. He ran a career-best 27:54 and finished in seventh place. Stunek has been creeping up the charts throughout the season. Last week at the UMD Meet he captured 13th place.

"Over the last couple races Jake has proven he's a legitimate sub-28:00 guy," commented Cobber head coach Garrick Larson about Stunek's recent form. "He's going to be a major player for the team in two weeks at the MIAC Championship and has a great shot at the top 50 in one of the deepest conferences in the nation."

Andreas Rekdal was the No.3 runner for Concordia at Jamestown and was followed by four other runners who finished in a pack just inside the top 25. Rekdal was in 16th place in a time of 28:40. Ben Fraase, John Buckanaga, Andy Rothfusz and Ben Jacobson all finished within :22 of each other. Fraase was 21st in a time of 29:08 while Jacobson was the final member of the quartet covering the course in 29:30 and placing 24th.

Concordia will now have two weeks off to train for the MIAC Championship Meet on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 3:15 p.m. at the Como Golf Course in St. Paul. The Cobbers will be hoping to improve on last season's seventh place finish.
