Isahak Leads Qualifier Week Crew

LA CROSSE, Wis. (5/20/21)---Senior Munir Isahak led the group of Cobber athletes who continued their season by competing in the annual "NCAA Qualifier" week.

Isahak threw down a time of 3:55.16 in the 1500 meters at the Wis.-La Crosse NCAA Final Qualifier Meet to put his name in the Top 5 of the school's all-time list in the event. His finishing time is the fifth fastest in school history and top time since the 2005 season when Nick Myran set the school record with a 3:52.02.

Isahak's time at La Crosse was a personal best by almost a full 3 seconds. His previous PR came last Saturday at the MIAC Meet when he clocked a 3:58.02 in the finals and finished in fifth place.

Isahak was one of three Concordia athletes at the La Crosse meet. Fellow senior Jacob Steiner was looking to up his marks in the shot put and hammer throw to try and qualify for the national meet while freshman Cooper Folkestad had his national sights set on the discus and shot put.

Steiner posted distances of 49-03 in the shot put and 169-03 on the hammer throw. Neither mark was a season best but his distance in the hammer was less than three feet shy of his PR.

Folkestad was fourth in the shot put with a mark of 50-10.75. That distance was just short of his outdoor season best of 51-05.75 which came at last weekend's MIAC Meet. Folkestad opened his first qualifier meet with a throw of 137-06 in the discus.

Concordia sophomore multi-eventer Wade Rhonemus traveled all the way to Illinois to compete in the North Central Multi-Event Meet and recorded a PR in the decathlon. Rhonemus finished the 2-day, 10-event affair with 6,011 points which marks the first time in his career that he has surpassed the 6,000-point mark. He also becomes the 13th decathlete in the history of the program to score more than 6,000 points in the event. His finishing score at North Central is just outside the Top 30 in the nation.
